Fatherhood is the best thing to happen to Russell Westbrook. The NBA star delved into his life as a family man during the 5th Annual Black Love Summit, which took place this past weekend.
“I would probably say being a father,” Russell said when asked about the best part of his day. “I’ve been blessed and so grateful,” Westbrook added before telling attendees that he enjoys waking up early in the morning to spend quality time with his kids.
“That to me is what I’m most proud of,” Russell shared. “And taking them to school, picking them up, that to me keeps me whole and it keeps me going,” the celebrity father noted.
Westbrook also praised his wife, Nina, for her many sacrifices. “She’s been holding s–t down from start to finish,” Russell shared. “And now been able to see her grow into the things that she’s been wanting to do while still supporting me and doing stuff with the kids, and doing this and doing that,” the star athlete continued. “I’m just grateful to have a partner able to do all that sacrifice. Now we’re here.”
Russell Westbrook places his family above everything, including the way fans treat him on and off the basketball court. It was earlier this year that the basketball player addressed sports fanatics who verbally attacked him because of his team’s shortcomings.
“I’ve kind of let it go in the past because it never really bothered me,” Russell said regarding some critics calling him “Russell Westbrick.”

“But it really kind of hit me the other day,” the celebrity father told the press during an post-game conference. “Me and my wife were at teacher-parent conferences for my son. And the teacher told me, ’Noah, he’s so proud of his last name. He writes it everywhere. He writes it on everything. He tells everybody and walks around and says, ‘I’m Westbrook.’ … And I kind of sat there in shock, and it hit me, like, ‘D-mn. I can no longer allow people [to besmirch my name].’”
Nina and Russell Westbrook have three kids – Noah, Skye, and Jordyn – together. Noah is the couple’s oldest child.
