Coi Leray is getting candid about motherhood, raising her daughter Miyoco alongside ex Trippie Redd, and the unexpected way becoming a mom has helped reshape her relationship with her father, Benzino.
During her first appearance on The Jason Lee Show, the rapper revealed that she and Trippie Redd are currently in court over matters involving their baby girl, but said their issues will not affect Miyoco’s relationship with her dad.
“I will say that someone who didn’t grow up with the relationship with my father, I would never want to put my daughter in that predicament ever and I never will,” she explained.
She added, “I would never want to keep, you know, I can have a and even if I have another daughter after this and it didn’t work out with the father, I would never keep my children away from anybody that they that deserves to be in their lives.”
Leray’s own relationship with Benzino has changed considerably. After years of public ups and downs between the father and daughter, she said they are now in a much better place.
“Me and my dad are really cool now. Like I love him so much. We have been speaking all the time. He facetimes me to speak to my daughter if not every other day,” she shared.
Watching Benzino become a grandfather has been especially meaningful for Leray, who said she did not grow up with a close relationship with her own grandparents.
“When he calls my phone and the first thing he goes is where’s Yoko he doesn’t even ask me how I’m doing he’s like where’s Yoko my daughter sees him and goes crazy,” she recalled.
Seeing Miyoco develop that bond with Benzino is something Leray is still taking in.
“So my daughter, like her having a relationship with her, grandpa, like I I have a daughter like she’s I still can’t believe it, bro,” she explained.
Elsewhere in the interview, Leray spoke about how demanding life has been since welcoming Miyoco.
“There’s no one on this earth that I feel for more right now is a single mother,” she said, explaining that motherhood “cost a lot physically, financially, mentally, emotionally.”
She acknowledged that having financial resources gives her access to help that many new mothers do not have, including a nanny who has become an important part of her support system.
“My nanny is 100% like probably the best thing that ever happened to me. She has been helping me damn near raise my child. She is someone who shows up above and beyond for me,” Leray shared.
“And not only that, she is teaching me how to be a mom as well because, you know, I didn’t grow up with sisters,” she continued.
