Just call him Daddy Do-Gooder! NBA star Russell Westbrook of the Houston Rockets is notorious for his extreme passion and ruthless competitiveness on the court. In fact, the late NBA great Kobe Bryant, who was also known for his extreme passion and ruthlessness during his career, once said that Westbrook is the player who most reminds him of himself. Despite his tough persona, Westbrook is actually quite generous and is a festive family man.
Russell Westbrook showed off his generous side on April 13, when he donated 650 computers to Houston students who can no longer attend school due to indefinite closures as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Westbrook, through his Why Not? Foundation, teamed up with Comp-U-Dot and Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner’s Office of Education to provide the computers to underprivileged Houston children to better facilitate their online studies. In a press conference with Sylvester Turner, Westbrook spoke about how proud he was to help.
“I’m extremely excited to be able to collaborate with Comp-U-Dot and find ways to be able to impact the youth immediately. It’s something that I’m very, very passionate about through my foundation, and I’m just trying to find a way — especially now — to be able to bridge the gap, and give kids access to another way of learning, through computers,” said Westbrook. “This allows them to be able to continue their education, especially from home. I’m happy to be a part of it.”
Russell Westbrook also showed off his festive side on Easter Sunday (April 12), celebrating with his wife Nina Westbrook and his three children: 2-year old Noah and 1-year old twins Jordyn and Skye Westbrook and sharing the photos on Instagram. One post features Nina along with her children playing with stuffed Easter bunnies. The caption reads: “Happy Resurrection Day from our Family to Yours! 2/3 participating 🐰’s ain’t bad… #Easter2020.” Russell’s post had his twins Skye and Jordyn in matching Easter bunny outfits and a caption that said: “Happy Easter 🐇🐰.”
