"With A Closed Fist"

Ex-NBA star Ben Gordon was arrested on Monday (Oct. 10) for allegedly hitting his 10-year-old son, Elijah Gordon. The incident reportedly occurred at LaGuardia Airport in Queens, New York.

Gordon was reportedly en route to Chicago with his son when he was barred by law enforcement from getting on their flight. Police officers took the star athlete into custody before leaving his son into the custody of an aunt who subsequently went with him to Long Island Jewish Children’s Hospital.

A witness allegedly confirmed Ben assaulting his son in public on Tuesday (Oct. 11). According to TMZ, “Ben Gordon punched his 10-year-old son in the head with a closed fist.” Gordon also reportedly had a restraining order against him that prohibited him from being near his son.

This isn’t the first time Ben Gordon has encountered the strong arm of the law. The former NBA player was arrested for assault and robbery in 2017. Gordon also found himself in legal peril after allegedly forging a license plate and setting off a fire alarm when no fire was present.

At the height of his career, Ben Gordon won the Sixth Man of the Year Award. He also won an NCAA championship in 2004 before entering the NBA as a professional basketball player. Ben Gordon spoke about the stereotypes he faced as a 33-year-old man trying to continue his career in the NBA during a 2017 interview with Bleacher Report.

“Being able to still do something at a high level and not being contracted to do it, it’s weird and doesn’t make sense,” Gordon shared regarding his status as a player without a contract.

“Yeah, I’m 33—but I’ve noticed people are selective with how they talk about people’s age,” he continued. “The view that I’m old, that don’t (sic) make sense,” Gordon said.

The incident between Gordon and his son at LaGuardia Airport is still developing.
