Rihanna is having loads of fun with her pregnancy. The singer and beauty brand owner tells Vogue about what inspired her maternity style.
“When I found out I was pregnant, I thought to myself, ‘There’s no way I’m going to go shopping in no maternity aisle,'” Rihanna says of her choice to skips clothes that seek to cover up her baby bump. “I’m sorry—it’s too much fun to get dressed up,” the expectant star continues. “I’m not going to let that part disappear because my body is changing.”
Rihanna has received some criticism from those who believe she is too edgy with her style these days. The Fenty Beauty owner, however, remains unmoved by the scrutiny.
“I’m hoping that we were able to redefine what’s considered ‘decent’ for pregnant women,” the singer shares with Vogue. “My body is doing incredible things right now, and I’m not going to be ashamed of that,” the mommy-to-be shares. “This time should feel celebratory. Because why should you be hiding your pregnancy?”
Many were pleasantly surprised to hear that Rihanna was expecting a child with A$AP Rocky. “Planning? I wouldn’t say planning. But certainly not planning against it,” Rihanna says of her and A$AP’s decision to start a family. “I don’t know when I ovulate or any of that type of sh*t. We just had fun,” the singer continues. “And then it was just there on the test. I didn’t waste any time. I called him inside and showed him. Then I was in the doctor’s office the next morning and our journey began.”
Rihanna imagined starting a family with kids after getting marriage. “I always thought it would be marriage first, then a baby, but who the f*ck says it has to be that way,” the singer asks. “I’m certainly not gonna let that get in the way of me being a mom.”
Rihanna and A$AP Rocky are expecting their first child to arrive in the coming weeks.
