Tyrese Gibson and Samantha Lee are celebrating their daughter Soraya, who turns 8 today.
The proud parents took to their respective Instagram pages on Thursday to share tributes to their little girl.
Tyrese shared throwback photos from Soraya’s early years, including one of her as a baby with the late filmmaker John Singleton, who was her godfather. Gibson later became godfather to Singleton’s son Seven, whom he has been raising.
“I can’t believe my angel turns 8 today!! What a gift and a blessing you are…. Raising both of you together has been my greatest joy!!!!!!” he wrote. “John is smiling down from@the heavens knowing that I gave my word and kept my word…. Happy birthday Soraya ‘Princess Heir’ Gibson see you soon.”
Lee celebrated her daughter with a series of photos that included a recent snapshot of mother and daughter.
“Happy 8th Birthday, Mamas,” she simply captioned the post.
The birthday posts come amid the former couple’s ongoing custody fight.
Earlier this week, Tyrese asked a judge to issue a warrant for his ex-wife’s arrest after accusing her of interfering with their custody arrangement. The actor claims that since Samantha moved from Georgia to Oregon with their daughter last year, he has not been able to have his scheduled parenting time.
Gibson has also asked the court to award him primary custody, arguing that the distance has made it harder for him to spend consistent time with Soraya.
Lee is opposing his latest request for an arrest warrant. She says she gave her ex-husband advance notice that she planned to move to Oregon and had tried to be “as transparent and collaborative as possible.”
Although Tyrese objected to the move, Lee’s attorneys have maintained that she did not need his permission to relocate with their daughter.
Gibson and Lee married in 2017, welcomed Soraya in 2018 and announced their split in 2020.
