Dame Dash believes he may have played a role in shaping his daughters’ perception of Black men.
During a recent sit-down on the Summertime podcast, the record executive revealed that his 5-year-old son, Dusko, is his “first child that loves black girls.”
When host Summer Hill asked about his other children, Dash said they had not spent much time around Black people.
“Cuz they’re not around them,” he explained.
The issue bothers him most when it comes to his daughters, Ava, 26, and Tallulah, 18, whom he shares with ex-wife Rachel Roy.
After Hill suggested that they did not like Black men, Dash clarified his point.
“Not that they don’t like them,” he said. “When you’re in a certain social class, sometimes you only have a stereotype of the people that you’re not in front of.”

That lack of exposure, he explained, has affected what his daughters expect from Black men.
“So, a lot of times my daughters are afraid of the quintessential stereotypical version of what they perceive a black man to be,” he said.
He then acknowledged that he may have contributed to those fears.
“Probably because of me,” he admitted.
Nevertheless, the father of five hopes his daughters ultimately choose Black partners.
“I only want my daughters to be with a black man,” he said.
For Dash, the example a parent sets can shape what his daughters expect from future relationships.
“The father is the bar for the daughter,” he explained. “And I tell them, unless a man treats you as good as me or better, he’s not a man.”
He has tried to teach Ava and Tallulah another lesson as well: never stay in a relationship because leaving might change the life they have become accustomed to.
“I have two daughters and the one thing I teach my daughters is you’re never going to stay in a relationship because you’re afraid of quality of living changing you,” he said.
Dash, who is also dad to sons Damon “Boogie” Dash II, 34, and Lucky, 22, said protecting his family has become one of his biggest priorities.
“My job as a man is to protect my woman, my daughters, my son’s jobs are to protect their mother and their sisters,” he said.
“So that’s why I became a full-time father and a part-time businessman,” he added.
