Motherhood has given Latto a new outlook on life.
During a recent interview with Kiss Xtra, the rapper called welcoming her baby girl the best decision she has ever made and shared how becoming a mom has changed both her perspective and her daily routine.
“I be trying to put this into words and I really can’t. I just be saying like best decision ever,” Latto said. “I be looking at her and I be like, ‘life is worth living.'”
She continued, “I look at her and I sing that song. She just made life like fun all over again.”
Her daughter has also changed her day-to-day life in more practical ways. After years of sleeping late, Latto now starts her day much earlier.
“Just turned me into a morning person by force,” she said. “I’m able to move and operate off of little sleep now. So my team loves it because like, you know, they’re so used to me waking up till probably like 3 p.m. Right. Now, bright, early, 7 a.m. I’m like, yes.”
In a previous interview with Apple Music, Latto reflected on the emotions she experienced after learning she was pregnant.
“My baby was very much planned. I just don’t know if I was committed to the plan,” she said with a laugh. “cuz we looked down and I just was like, ‘Oh.’ And there were tears and anxiety was through the roof, but it’s what it’s what I wanted. But I just was like, ‘Wait, this real life? Like, am I really ready?'”
Although becoming a mom was something she wanted, she admitted she struggled with the idea of stepping away from the life and career she had built for herself.
“It’s like it was hard for me to take a step back and be like, I want to do something for Alyssa cuz my whole life has always been living Latto’s life, right? And Alyssa wanted to do this. So, I was like, you know what? I’m doing something for myself this time. This is what I wanted to do.”
Looking back, she believes that choice was “the biggest blessing in disguise. Like, God was like, I’m so proud of you for choosing you and I’m going to protect you in this next chapter of your life.”
She also said motherhood gave her a sense of fulfillment that neither career success nor her longtime relationship could provide.
“But no, she is what made me feel fulfilled. Like I’ve always had a successful career. I’ve been with my man for a minute now. Like she is what put that cherry on top and made me feel fulfilled.”
