ACTOR AND “THE CROSSOVER” STAR JALYN HALL TALKS EXCLUSIVELY TO BCKONLINE

Jalyn Hall’s career has seemingly exploded since the talented young man captured the heart of audiences as a regular on a the CW‘s fan favorite series, All American as Dillon James. Fast-forward and the young actor has added both movies and anthologies to his resume, portraying the likes of Emmett Till and a young Martin Luther King Jr. BCKOnline caught up with the multi-talented teen to get to know him better and find out more about his latest project, The Crossover.

BCKOnline: What made you want to start acting?

Jalyn Hall: I have always had a love for it. At a young age, I went to a showcase where I watched actors create art on stage, and that’s where I found a genuine love for acting. I knew I wanted to do that; I knew I wanted to be an actor!

BCKOnline: What is the most difficult thing about being an actor?

Jalyn Hall: The hardest part about acting is managing your time. While it’s something you really enjoy doing, one must accurately manage their schedule to ensure they keep everything in line. With interviews, auditions, productions, and other things, I must manage my time well for it all to work.

BCKOnline: What has been the most rewarding thing about being an actor?

Jalyn Hall: The most rewarding part of being an actor is reaching a goal you set. I have a sense of joy that comes over me that inspires me to wake up and do it again and again.

BCKOnline: You recently portrayed Emmett Till in TILL. What was the one personal take-a-way for you from this film?

Jalyn Hall: One of my personal takeaways is how much closer it brought me to my history. While filming TILL, I was able to learn more about important people and their stories. After that experience, I am more conscious of our history.

BCKOnline: For your latest project, The Crossover, tell us about your character. How different or similar is he to your real personality?

Jalyn Hall: Let’s be honest here. We have some similarities surrounding our age, our family, and our challenges. Filthy is in high school, he loves his family, and he is a family man with a dream!

BCKOnline: In the new Disney series, you, and Amir O’Neil play brothers. What has been your favorite thing about working with Amir?

Jalyn Hall: I get to work with someone I can have fun with. Many times, on the projects I work on, I’m the youngest in the room. It’s great to have an opportunity to work with people who are the same age as myself! We talk about the same thing, we’re interested in the same activities, and it’s just an all-around great experience.

BCKOnline: If you could put together the “dream basketball team,” who would be in your starting five lineup?

Jalyn Hall: My starting five lineup will be:

  • Ja Morant
  • Lebron James
  • Kyrie Irving
  • Kobe Bryant
  • Giannis Antetokounmpo

BCKOnline: In addition to acting, what other things are you passionate about?

Jalyn Hall: I’m passionate about:

  • Playing Sports
  • Playing video games
  • Dressing/fashion
  • Taking care of my family
  • Creating stories/writing

BCKOnline: What advice would you give other kids that want to break into acting?

Jalyn Hall: While acting is a challenge, if you really believe that you can do it, you just have keep working towards that dream. Keep putting your best foot forward and you will get there.

BCKOnline: What is next for you?

Jalyn Hall: More conversational pieces. Also, watch out for projects that are produced by me! Other than that, just fun because what’s work without a good time every now and then.
