Jalyn Hall is truly keeping himself very busy. Coming off the success of his role as Emmett Till in the movie, Till, the 16-year-old is set to star in the upcoming Hulu movie, Bruiser.
Bruiser, which began as a short film by Miles Warren, quickly became a treasured part of Disney’s Onyx Collective, which is a brand formed under Disney General Entertainment content, to give underrepresented creators of color a space to share their voices.
“I was immediately drawn to the depth and emotion in every shot of Miles’s award-winning short film,” said Onyx Collective president Tara Duncan. “He is an impressive burgeoning artist, and Onyx Collective is the home for filmmakers with something urgent to say. Bruiser is an incisive coming-of-age story about manhood, masculinity, and the complexity of male friendship and love. I am thrilled the festival has recognized Bruiser as part of their Discovery program, and look forward to the world seeing and discussing this film.”
According to Deadline, here is a brief synopsis of what to expect from the upcoming project:
The drama is about fathers, families and the effects of toxic masculinity. 14 year old Darious (Hall) explores the boundaries of his manhood through tumultuous interactions with Malcolm, his strict but loving father, and Porter, a charismatic drifter. When Darious learns Porter’s true identity, he is thrust into a conflict between the two men that may rip his family apart and threaten his safety.
In addition to Hall, the film stars Independent Spirit Award nominee Trevante Rhodes (Porter), Shamier Anderson (Malcolm), and Shinelle Azoroh.
Bruiser is produced by Ryder Picture Company, Lyrical Media, Silent R Management and Toula67 Entertainment. The script for the project was written by Miles Warren and Ben Medina. Warren will direct the feature film. Bruiser will premiere on Hulu on February 24, 2023 and hit theaters December 2nd. The project will also stream exclusively on Star+ in Latin America.
