Mashonda Tifrere and Swizz Beatz celebrated their son Kasseem Dean Jr.’s birthday this past weekend. Kasseem, who turns sixteen years old on Thursday (Dec. 22), enjoyed lots of gifts and activities in honor of his Sweet 16 milestone.

Kasseem had the company of his family at his birthday party. Alicia Keys joined the teen’s siblings in celebrating Kasseem on his special day. All of those in attendance received the gift of Kasseem performing at his party.

Mashonda, Alicia Keys, and Swizz Beatz have worked hard to create a blended family that encourages their kids to thrive. It was during an interview in 2018 that Mashonda explained how Alicia Keys served as an intricate part of Kasseem’s life.

“Alicia is extremely involved with my son,” Tifrere shared. “She is not like the bonus mom or stepmom that’s just about literally, ‘alright, we’re picking them up at 2.’ No. She really shows up for parent-teacher meetings. We plan trips to the park with all the boys,” Mashonda explained.

Tifrere has written a book, called Blend, in which she explains the importance of parents getting along for the sake of the kids after a breakup. Mashonda’s book was created from a place of compassion and understanding after her son began having trouble in school because of turmoil at home.

“He had some issues in school,” Mashonda shared. “He wanted to know why I couldn’t go see him at his dad’s house, and why can’t his dad come over and see his bedroom at our house.”

Swizz Beatz and Mashonda found ways to navigate the path of co-parenting peaceably. Kasseem’s behavior, as a result, improved. Now, the youngster is well on his way to following in his parents’ footsteps as a music artist.
