Zaris-Angel Hator stars in new Netflix animated adventure, The Sea Beast. Of course, we have a first look at the trailer for you!
Chris Williams is at the helm of this new project. You may recognize the name as he was also behind the camera of several Disney hits that include: Moana, Big Hero 6, and Bolt.
According to Deadline, this is an official synopsis of what viewers can expect from this new film.
In an era when terrifying beasts roamed the seas, and monster hunters were celebrated heroes, with none being more beloved than the great Jacob Holland. But when young Maisie Brumble stows away on his fabled ship, he’s saddled with an unexpected ally. Together, they embark on an epic journey into uncharted waters and make history.
In a recent interview about the film, director Williams told Ashley & Company that the idea for this film came from his childhood and his fascination with maps.
“When I was a kid, I loved drawing and writing and creating comic strips and I used to make these little stop motion films, and I always loved movies. And I always loved those old sea monster maps, there’s something about them that is just so evocative and romantic,” Williams said.
He continued, “I really liked in particular the maps that were incomplete with areas that would just kind of fade off into nothingness and I found that nothingness to be just so compelling. They would populate those areas with sea monsters and I would look at those maps and I always thought, man, that would make an awesome world for an animated movie, so I made one.”
Rounding out the cast, in addition to Zaris-Angel, the film also stars Karl Urban (The Boys), Jared Harris (Foundation), Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Boxing Day), Dan Stevens (Gaslit), and Kathy Burke (Tinker Tailor Solider Spy).
If Zaris-Angel’s face looks familiar, it should. The 18-year-old has been seen in The Power, The Midnight Gang, and most recently, Morbius, where she portrayed Anna.
The Sea Beast will set sail on Netflix July 8!
