Serena Williams is a tennis champion, business owner, investor, and more. Among her many responsibilities in life, her commitment to the roles of mom and wife reigns supreme. Still, juggling motherhood with a thriving career does not come without its challenges.
“I’m really bad at self-care,” Serena tells Business Insider. “I was just telling my chief of staff that I need to get a pedicure because it’s been two years since I sat in a chair and had one,” the celebrity mom says. “Maybe I could do that while I’m multitasking and taking calls.”
Serena Williams has a hand in athletics as well as fashion. When she is not on the tennis court, the sports champion is in the office planning her next move to promote her clothing line, S by Serena. Williams also participates in photo sessions to promote other designers, which sometimes provides the opportunity to spend quality time at work with her daughter, Alexis Olympia.
“Mom guilt is real,” Serena tells Insider. “I always feel so guilty when I’m doing something on my own,” the tennis star adds. “I don’t know if I’m a good mom, and I don’t know if my method works, but I’m very hands-on with my daughter, and it was the same with our parents,” she explains.
“So I’ve set really good boundaries, but then after work, I’m going right to my daughter. And that’s amazing and good, but now it’s like, ‘Okay, what happens to Serena?'”
Self-care is still something that Serena struggles to balance with her life as a mom and businesswoman. Still, Williams remains committed to creating the best life for herself as well as her daughter and husband.
“I don’t think I recognize my accomplishments enough,” Williams tells Insider. “I’m one of those people that’s like, ‘If it’s done, it’s done, I’ve moved on.'”
“Because if you think about what you’ve done too much, you may stop doing it. And I never want to stop. I’m still trying to reach my goals.”
