“I have loved working on ‘General Hospital,’ but I feel like this is the right time to dive in and enjoy my college experience to the fullest,” said Sydney to Digest in an interview. “The cast has become family and bringing the character of Trina to life has been one of the best experiences of my career thus far. Thank you to Frank and the entire team for believing in me and giving me this wonderful opportunity. I will miss working with everyone every day, but I am excited to see what is to come for the show.”

Sydney requested to be placed on recurring status on the soap opera last fall and now has decided to leave the daytime drama completely in order to concentrate full-time on her studies at UCLA.

Sydney joined the cast of General Hospital in June of 2017. And of course, during these five years, the young actress and her castmates have truly, as she said, become family.

Frank Valentini, the show’s executive producer, said in a statement to Soap Opera Digest that, “Sydney asked to leave in order to focus on college. We love her and are sad to see her go, but of course support her decision and wish her the best.”

UCLA wasn’t the only school that Sydney received offers from. She also received offers from Howard University, LMU, Pace University, and Texas State University, among others. Proving that she is also a talented scholar as well as actress, Sydney received 14 acceptance letters from the colleges and universities she applied to.

GH fans make sure to set your DVR’s as Sydney’s last air date on the show is set for Thursday, March 17. Her role as Trina Robinson has been recast with newcomer Tabyana Ali. Ali will make her debut on the series later this month.

“We’re excited to welcome Tabyana Ali and see what she’ll do with the role of Trina,” Valentini said of Ali.

Congratulations are in order to both Sydney and Tabyana! Sydney, we cannot wait to see what the future holds for you and Tabayana, we will be watching, cheering you on in your new role!
