“Heath and the kids hit it off after the introduction,” Monyetta said in reference to how her and Ne-Yo’s children, Madilyn and Mason, adjusted to the notion of having a “bonus” dad by marriage. “He gets along with their dad, and it definitely helps,” Shaw-Carter said of her husband’s relationship with her children’s father. “Heath, Shaffer, Crystal [Ne-Yo’s wife] and I are all able to talk about what works best for the kids,” Monyetta shared.

Heath Carter and Monyetta Shaw tied the matrimonial knot last November. The celebrities enjoyed a star-studded wedding ceremony that was filled with love and high hopes for the future. Heath also brought children to the relationship.

“I was a little nervous,” Monyetta Shaw-Carter told Parents.com during her recent interview. “Being on this side of the fence is a little different, because I’m now dealing with someone else’s kids in a scenario in which I’m familiar, but excited at the same time about bringing her into the fold,” the celebrity mom continued.

“I’ve been in the shoes of the biological mom, so I know what it feels like to have my children become a part of a blended family.”

Blending families requires lots of communication. “Open communication is essential,” Monyetta told the press. “The adults have to be the adults,” the celebrity mom declared.

“Always keep the kids first and do what’s in the best interest of the little ones,” Shaw-Carter advised parents presently on the quest to find a balance in co-parenting.

“Try to be consistent,” Monyetta further suggested. “This helps the children maintain normalcy, keeps down confusion, and always keeps the other parent in the loop. Not only does it keep the line of communication open, but it’s the respectful thing to do.”
