Gabrielle Union views Mother’s Day as a challenging day to celebrate. The L.A.’s Finest star got candid about the holiday in an Instagram post this past Sunday (May 9).
“My journey to motherhood was long, arduous, and at many times extremely painful,” Gabrielle told her social media followers. “Mother’s Day will always be a challenging day to celebrate for me,” the celebrity mom added.
“I know I’m not alone in this feeling,” Union continued. “For many reasons, so many of us have a rough time today and to these good people, I send all my love, light, and compassion. To all the Moms, Stepmoms, Bonus Moms, Folks who Mother those that need it, Grandma’s, House Mothers, I celebrate you today and every day. Be good to yourselves.”
Gabrielle Union welcomed her daughter, Kaavia James, in 2018. The actress’s daughter arrived after years of Gabrielle struggling with infertility, which led to several miscarriages. In fact, Union reveals in her memoir, We’re Going To Need More Wine, that she had anywhere from eight to ten miscarriages while trying to conceive a child by way of IVF treatments with her husband, Dwyane Wade. The celebrities ultimately decided to expand their family by way of a surrogate.
“Kaavia really is the personification of hope for a lot of people like us, who maybe didn’t have a lot to be hopeful about,” Gabrielle Union said during an interview with Parents magazine. “She represents that maybe there is a light at the end,” the actress added. “And when you take people on the low points of your journey, it’s cool to let them be part of the joy. Plus, she’s really cute. And has an uncanny ability for making steely eye contact!”
Kaavia James is Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade’s only child together. Dwyane fathers four kids – Kaavia, Zaya, Zaire, and Xavier – in all.
