Philly teen earns more than $1 million in scholarships from 16 different schools. And of course, Shanya Robinson-Owens is nothing less than overjoyed. 

The Philadelphia teenager applied to 20 different schools. So far, she has been accepted to 18. 

“I was really shocked. I didn’t know what to do,” she told WPVI in an interview of her acceptances. “I didn’t know if I should cry, laugh. I didn’t know what to do.”

In an interview with Good Morning America, Robinson-Owens’s aunt Christine Owens chimed in on the good scholarship news.

“We are overjoyed. I knew she wouldn’t have a problem getting into colleges, but we didn’t know they would award her this much money in scholarship funds. We’ve always been extremely proud of her. My mother has helped raise Shanya since she was a baby. We’ve just been working as a team, making sure Shanya keeps God first in anything she does and she is succeeding.”

The 17-year-old is a senior at George Washington Carver High School of Engineering and Science where her  favorite subject is chemistry. However, according to Good Morning America, Robinson-Owens plans to study psychology in college.

Some of the schools that have accepted Robinson-Owens include: Moravian College, La Salle University, Lincoln University, Temple University and Cabrini University.  Robinson-Owens has until May 1 to decide where she wants to embark upon her college career. 

With the plethora of acceptances, she did tell WPVI that this makes her decision “a little harder.” Once she hears from the last two schools, she will start visiting campuses in hopes of narrowing her decision down. 

So, what is Robinson-Owen’s advice for fellow students? Well, she advises her peers to, “stay patient and focused.” She told GMA, “If you need to have some time away, it’s okay. You can tell your teachers that because they know you’re stressed.”
