TIA MOWRY SHARES HER BEST AND WORST QUALITY AS A PARENT

"I Love Making My Kids Laugh"

Tia Mowry loves to have a good time with her kids. The Family Reunion star tells PEOPLE exclusively that her desire to be her children’s best friend is both a blessing and a curse.

“I am fun, I’m funny, I am like your best friend. I love being with my kids, I love making my kids laugh,” the celebrity mom shares. “That would probably be my worst quality, as well,” Tia admits.

It was just a few weeks ago that the veteran actress told The Breakfast Club that she does not believe in spanking her children. Some took Tia’s philosophy to the extreme and concluded that she was advocating for letting kids do whatever they wanted. The celebrity mom, however, makes it clear that she wholeheartedly believes in structure and discipline. It’s just the friendship aspect that doesn’t always mesh with firm parenting.

“I want them to be my friend,” Tia tells PEOPLE. “You tell your best friend everything. And I want to be that for my children, but sometimes I have to realize that maybe that’s not a realistic goal.”

The celebrity mom goes on to say, “You’re [always] gonna be Mom. I always love to have a good time with my kids. They always look to me to have fun but sometimes that gets in the way when it comes to discipline and structure, ’cause that’s also important when you’re raising a child.”
