Gabrielle Union-Wade can’t get enough of daughter Kaavia James Union Wade and neither can we! On Saturday, the actress shared a slew of photos and videos of her baby girl with her social media followers.
In one such photo, The Being Mary Jane star cradles her baby backstage during a photo shoot for her latest clothing collection with NY & Company. She captioned the photo, “Mama x Baby. BTS of @nyandcompany upcoming collection. Take your daughter to work day.”
Kaavia was born via surrogate on November 7th after Gabriel suffered several miscarriages.
“I have had eight or nine miscarriages,” Union writes in her book We’re Going to Need More Wine. “For three years, my body has been a prisoner of trying to get pregnant — I’ve either been about to go into an IVF cycle, in the middle of an IVF cycle, or coming out of an IVF cycle.”
Gabby did get pregnant from those IVF cycles, but could never carry the baby to term because of Adenomyosis, a condition that causes endometrial tissue to grow into the uterine wall.
“There’s so much shame and guilt and mystery surrounding fertility issues,” she says. “And that’s why I wanted to include it in my book. Because I’m tired of it. It needs to stop.”
It was Gabrielle’s husband Dwyane Wade who brought up the idea of surrogacy. Fast-forward to today, the couple is happy that they chose to have a surrogate.
