Sofia Carson
How do you think that you are different or similar to your character in Descendants 2?
I think we are similar in that we both have a love of fashion. Evie is the fashionista of the movie and in the second one, she is a fashion designer. And I love her passion for fashion. I love fashion as well. I think Evie also tells a really beautiful story about girl power that was always really important to me and close to my heart, and I wanted it to be a part of who I was as an artist. Girls are not defined by our reflection in the mirror, we are so much more than that. We are beautiful, intelligent, and we can do anything that we can dream of. I love Evie’s story. I think we are different in that, at least in the first film, she was raised by a horrible mother, the evil queen, I was not, thankfully, and she was raised to believe in the whole idea that girls need a prince to be saved.
What are some of your favorite things to do when you are not in front of the camera?
When I am not in front of the camera, I love just being with my sister. Just watching Netflix. I love going to the movies, one of my favorite things to do. I watched Wonder Woman like twice.
Tell us more about your pursuit of your BA in Communications and International Relations? What are your future plans pertaining to your degree?
Education has always been a big part of who I was and who I am. I was always a nerd growing up. I am very lucky that my parents gifted me with an education and a chance to go to school. I have nine classes left in my Communications major and International Relations minor and it’s really been a big help in what I do every day-doing interviews constantly and working a lot with communications and press, [it] has been really helpful. In terms of international relations, I think it never hurts to know more about the world and what’s going on out there. Education is something that no one can ever take away from you.
Being trilingual, what advantages has that given you in acting?
You know, I never realized growing up how important it would be to speak other languages until I got older and started working in this business. It really is such an incredible asset to be able to speak in any language. In terms of press, Disney travels me through Latin America or Europe to speak in French or Spanish, it’s been a great asset. I feel really lucky.
In terms of your music career, what can fans expect next?
I just released a single called, Back to Beautiful, that I’ve been promoting. And I am also working on releasing a new single, hopefully by the end of summer. I’m working on the concepts for the music video now. I’ll also be in the studio this summer, working on the album.
What is one fun fact that you can share with our readers that no one knows about you?
I don’t know how to ride a bike.
