MADONNA OPENS HOSPITAL IN MALAWI, NAMES IT AFTER ONE OF HER KIDS

Madonna is taking her charitable efforts to another level with a new medical facility in Malawi. The Pop singer’s charity announced the opening of the Mercy James Institute for Pediatric Surgery and Intensive Care, which is named after Madonna’s second-eldest daughter, Mercy. The facility is set to welcome the public beginning Tuesday, July 11, 2017.

According to Madonna’s charity website, the Institute “currently has a four-bed intensive care unit for its 1,300 patients per day which results in many children not receiving the critical care they need.” The hospital is also meant to be a training center for future medical professionals with its current staff being composed of some of the best and brightest in South Africa.

“In a country with only three pediatric surgeons and 50% of the population under 15 years old, this new facility could make a significant difference in the lives of Malawian children,” Madonna’s charity site noted.

Malawi is certainly a country near and dear to the ‘Material Girl’ singer’s heart. To date, Madonna has given hundreds of thousands to local orphanages in support of children without moms or dads to care for them. The singer has also adopted four of her six children from the country, with the most recent being twin girls Estere and Stelle.
