Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes adopted a baby girl named Emerson Pearl in February 2012. The screenwriter told Us Weekly, “I’ve been writing adoption into story lines on my shows and only a few people close to me knew about my plans. I think the response was ‘oh my goodness’ from a lot of people.”
Rhimes has gotten a lot of time to bond with her newest bundle of joy. As Shonda explains, “Emerson is incredibly mellow. We’re just doing a lot of bonding right now. This is a happy time — I feel so lucky.”
Little Emerson Pearl joins Rhimes’ daughter Harper, whom she adopted in 2002.
