Savannah James is sharing how her daughter, Zhuri, reacted to her dad LeBron James joining the Philadelphia 76ers.
During the November 3 episode of Baby, This Is Keke Palmer, the mom of three said the 12-year-old was initially unsure how things would change with her dad across the country.
“She was trying to figure it out. Like, so am I not going to see him? Like, how is this going to work?” Savannah recalled.
When her parents brought up the possibility of going to school on the East Coast, Zhuri told them she’d rather stay in Los Angeles.
“I don’t want to be away from school for that long. I still want to play with my teammates,” Savannah remembered her daughter saying.
Zhuri figured she could visit her dad on occasion and still have time for her friends and volleyball back home.
“I love the autonomy surrounding that,” Palmer responded.
Savannah said that five years ago, she would have made the decision for Zhuri and told her to pack up and move with the family. Now, she’s more comfortable with the family living in different cities.
“LeBron going to play in Philly, it’s going to be an adjustment, but it is going to work out,” Savannah said.
New York will be Savannah’s hub as she splits her time between LeBron in Philadelphia and Zhuri in Los Angeles. She’s also keeping up with her sons’ basketball schedules. Bronny plays for the Los Angeles Lakers, while Bryce plays for the University of Arizona Wildcats in Tucson.
“The crazy in my life is the fact that I have to figure out how to be three places at once,” she said. “I try not to think about it because I’m like, it’s going to stress me out, and I know it has to happen.”

Savannah, who recently turned 40, credited the work she’s done on herself with helping her handle the changes.
“I went into this like I want to feel a certain way,” she said. “I want to look at the next 40, if you will, of my life and not be, I guess, questioning myself or decisions that I make and all of those types of things.”
