Gabourey Sidibe has a funny reason for saying yes to more acting jobs these days: her 2-year-old twins.
While attending the American Horror Story Season 13 premiere on Sept. 24, the actress joked that work gives her a chance to step away from the chaos at home with son Cooper and daughter Maya.
“Well now I say yes to most jobs so I can leave the house,” Sidibe told E! News. “They’re two years old, so that terrible twos thing? Not a rumor.”
Jokes aside, becoming a mother has changed the way the 43-year-old approaches her work.
“I think I’m much more sensitive, now, as a mom,” she explained. “So, I think I bring more sensitivity and care to my roles now.”
Sidibe shares Cooper and Maya with husband Brandon Frankel. The couple welcomed the twins in April 2024.
During an appearance on Good Morning America, Sidibe revealed that the twins are looking forward to Halloween and are excited to pick out their own costumes.
“My kids are really excited for the first time [for Halloween]. Because now they know, they’re two, so they know what it is now,” Sidibe said. “So we’re letting them choose their costumes.”
Maya’s choice seems to change by the day, while Cooper has remained surprisingly committed to one idea.
“My daughter, every time I ask — I’m doing this thing where I ask them every day. Every day my daughter says something different. A cow! A cat! A werewolf!” Sidibe shared. “My son? A blackberry! Every day! Wants to be a blackberry!”
When Michael Strahan asked if she really planned to make the costume happen, Sidibe confirmed that Cooper would get his wish.
“I will be sewing a blackberry costume, because that’s what he wants to be,” she said.
And yes, she means the fruit.
“He’s not a business manager in the 2010s. He’s a child!” Sidibe joked after the GMA hosts briefly wondered whether Cooper meant a BlackBerry phone.
Sidibe is currently back as Queenie in American Horror Story: 13, and reprises the role she previously played in Coven, Hotel and Apocalypse.
