A Georgia high school student is setting the bar for black excellence. The teen was accepted to over 40 colleges with more than $600 in scholarships.
Seventeen-year-old Kenyari Sawyer applied to 92 different schools after seeing just how easy it was to do.
“I started applying on August 1. The first two colleges I applied to were Cleveland and Mississippi, and I did not think I was going to get accepted into those. Then I was like, this is how it goes? This is an easy process, and I just started going from there,” Sawyer told FOX 31 News in a recent interview.
The amazing young scholar, with a 4.0 from Monroe High School, so far has been accepted into 48 of the schools and has received a running total of $601,000 in scholarships.
“My mom is proud because I stopped her from going to college when she got pregnant with me. And so now that she’s seeing that I’m getting out doing something that she was not able to do makes her proud,” Sawyer said in an interview with FOX 5.
She continued in another interview offering other students advice.
“Do not be scared and go for what you want,” she said. “If you want it, go for it, and do not let people talk down on you. You said I can’t do this, but I can and I’m going to show you.”
