Gabourey Sidibe celebrated Mother’s Day with her twins, Cooper and May, and husband, two months after losing her own mother.
Taking to Instagram on the holiday, the Precious actress shared a carousel of images with of herself, her twins, and her mother. The 41-year-old began her touching caption by writing, “It would’ve been nice to celebrate Mothers Day with my mother as a mom myself.”
She continued, “It would’ve been even nicer if she had the opportunity it to meet her grandchildren but she was sick for a long time and that’s just not how things worked out. I am grateful for the years I did have her and all the funny stories about her I’ll someday be able to tell my kids. Like how after I got married, she came to visit and fell in love with my cats but then said “It’s time to stop f@ck!ng around with these cats and have some kids.” Well we got right on top of that.”
“Celebrating today feels wrong but my Mom was so fun and really funny and my kids are so much like her so with gratitude, today I will celebrate her through them because despite whatever else going on, I am so happy and proud to be Maya and Coopers Momma,” Sidibe concluded her post, “Happy Mother’s Day to everyone celebrating.”

Sidibe’s husband, Brandon Frankel, marked Mother’s Day with his own special post, championing and celebrating his wife with a series of images.
“As if I need any excuses to celebrate @gabbysidibe formally, HAPPY 2ND MOTHER’S DAY!! I can safely say you’re the absolute best mother anyone could ever dream of. Cooper & Maya are insanely lucky to have you,” he began his caption.
“You put 1000% into making sure they’re fed well, dressing cute, learning daily, getting hilarious sing-alongs, and are happier and healthier than anyone could hope for. You make it look easy, though I know for a fact it’s anything but. Watching how care-free and how much they laugh and smile is a testament to the amazing job you’re doing.”
He concluded, “We love you more than words could possibly ever do justice, so we hope you always know how much you’re loved and appreciated. We love you infinitely. Happy Happy Mother’s Day, “MOM”, as the twins totally skipped over saying “mama”.”
Frankel and Sidibe married in 2021. Four weeks ago, the couple celebrated their twins’ first milestone birthday. In an interview at the time, Sidibe told People Magazine that although “motherhood is consuming,” she is remembering to take time for herself and “re-fall in love” with herself.
