Queen Beyonce and her eldest daughter, 12-year-old Blue Ivy, sat down with Good Morning America on Tuesday to talk about their roles in Disney’s highly anticipated Mufasa: The Lion King. The mother-daughter duo lend their voices to the beloved characters Nala and Kiara.
In her first major voice acting role, Blue Ivy expressed gratitude for the support and encouragement she received during the project.
“It’s just a really amazing experience,” Blue Ivy shared. “I feel like everybody that’s a part of this is so helpful and supportive. The director, um, Barry, is a really sweet person, and he tells me ways that I can improve in my lines. He’s very supportive of me and tells me in the nicest way possible. I feel like so does everybody else.”
She continued, “This is just a great experience for me, and I’m really happy for girls that look like me all around the world. [They’re] able to watch this movie and hear and see themselves in it.”
For Beyoncé, seeing her daughter bring Kiara to life was nothing short of magical.
“Seeing Blue as Kiara and hearing her voice come out of that character… Give me a second, ’cause I still just can’t believe that’s my baby. I can’t believe that’s my baby,” Bey said.
She added, “She did such a beautiful, beautiful job. I can’t believe how natural she is. I’m just so proud of you. I’m so proud of you! I can’t believe how big and grown-up you are. And I’m proud that she’s going to represent so many young brown girls around the world. Nobody’s prouder than Mommy!”
Although not part of the film, six-year-old Rumi Carter made a surprise appearance during the segment. Her playful energy and infectious smile melted hearts, proving that the Carter family’s star power runs deep.
