Deion Sanders, also known as Coach Prime, celebrated a double milestone on Friday—his 57th birthday and the arrival of his very first grandchild!
During a pre-season press conference, the proud new grandfather shared that his daughter, Deiondra Sanders, gave birth to a healthy baby boy on August 9th.
“That’s how good God is,” an emotional Sanders shared with reporters. “Like God would choose me on my birthday, for my daughter, for my kids to have their first child, the first time I’m a grandfather, on my birthday,” said Deion Sanders. “Do you understand how beautiful that is? How much of a blessing that is?”
Deiondra, 32, is one of Deion’s five children. She and her brother, Deion Jr., 30, are from Sanders’ first marriage to Carolyn Chambers. Coach Prime also shares three children with his second wife, Pilar Biggers-Sanders: Shilo, 24; Shedeur, 22; and Shelomi, 20.
While Deiondra, who recently announced her engagement to R&B singer Jacquees, has yet to publicly share the news of her son’s arrival, her brothers were quick to embrace their new roles as uncles.
“We are uncles, yeah” said Shedeur Sanders, Colorado’s quarterback. “It’s really exciting. My sister, I just got the text that she had a child.”
Shilo Sanders, who plays safety for the same team, proudly shared that he had already met his new nephew—virtually, that is. “He’s nice,” Shilo Sanders said. “He’s healthy. I’ve seen him on FaceTime. I’m proud of her.”
Deiondra first announced her pregnancy in March, calling it a “miracle” after overcoming significant health challenges. After undergoing multiple myomectomy surgeries to remove fibroids, and currently having seven, doctors warned her that the pregnancy would be high-risk. Despite these challenges, Deiondra’s journey to motherhood has been a triumph, marking yet another special chapter in the Sanders family legacy.
