In this newest installment in the mega-hit Descendants franchise, former Villain Kid Uma, now headmaster of Auradon Prep, extends an invite to the school to another VK – Red, the rebellious daughter of the tyrannical Queen of Hearts from Wonderland. The Queen of Hearts has long held a grudge against Auradon, and especially Cinderella, and seizes the opportunity to seek revenge when she drops her daughter off at school. When the Queen of Hearts incites a coup against Auradon, Red must team up with Cinderella’s perfectionist daughter Chloe and travel back in time to try to undo the traumatic event that set Red’s mother down her villainous path.

In addition to Kylie Cantrall as Red, and Malia Baker, who plays Chloe, the daughter of Cinderella and King Charming, the film will star a new ensemble of “Villain Kids” and legacy characters.

The cast will include: Brandy as Cinderella, Rita Ora as the Queen of Hearts, Dara Reneé as Uliana, Ruby Rose Turner as Bridget/Young Queen of Hearts, Morgan Dudley as Ella/Young Cinderella, Joshua Colley as Young Hook, Peder Lindell as Morgie, Grace Narducci as Fay/Young Fairy Godmother, Jeremy Swift as Principal Merlin, Paolo Montalban as King Charming, and Leonardo Nam as the Maddox Hatter.

China Anne McClain is back as Uma and the new principal at Auradon Prep. Melanie Paxson also reprises her role as Fairy Godmother.

Although McClain is back for another stint at Auradon Prep, the actress admitted that she was a bit apprehensive about returning to the project as a result of the loss of co-star, Cameron Boyce, who died in his sleep in 2019 as a result of a seizure.

“I was apprehensive to revisit the Descendants world at first, because losing Cam was the first heartbreak I’ve ever experienced. But once I saw how excited the new generation of kids were, it reminded me of myself when we created the original films,” China shared in a statement.

“Everything came together beautifully. There’s one scene that is very special to me, I’m sure the audience will be able to guess which one it is once they see the movie. Stepping back into Uma was very fulfilling, and healing for me.”

We are glad that she is back and this time leading Auradon Prep as principal! Set your reminders, Descendants: The Rise of Red will starts streaming Friday, July 12, exclusively on Disney+, followed by a special encore Friday, Aug. 9, at 8:00 p.m. EDT/PDT on Disney Channel.
