Allyson Felix is pregnant!
The retired Olympian star is expecting her second child, a baby boy, with husband Kenneth Ferguson. The pair, who are already parents to daughter Camryn, shared the exciting news on their respective Instagram pages last week.
Felix revealed the news the day before Thanksgiving day, saying, “Thanksgiving blessings! Adding a little more love to our family.”
Ferguson echoed the sentiment with his own post, sharing that they have a “baby boy on the way.”
At 38 years old, Allyson Felix has etched her name in the annals of Olympic history. With a staggering 11 medals across five Olympic appearances, seven of which are gold, she stands as the most decorated American athlete in Olympic track and field. The 2022 season marked the end of her illustrious track career, leaving an indelible mark on the sport.
Beyond her athletic achievements, Felix has become a prominent advocate for Black maternal health. Drawing from her own challenging birth experience in 2018 and the tragic passing of her teammate Tori Bowie due to childbirth complications, she has been vocal about addressing disparities in the healthcare system, particularly for Black women.
In a recent interview with NBC Sports, Felix emphasized the need for awareness and action, stating, “When I hear the statistics that almost 82% of black women’s complications and deaths in pregnancy are preventable, to me it’s heartbreaking. But it’s also very hopeful that more needs to happen. I want to continue to do that. I want to continue to grow my company and keep doing the same things I’m doing.”
During the interview, she spoke about her desire to push for policy changes and emphasized the importance of medical professionals listening to Black women.
She said, “That’s one of the biggest things that we hear. We’re not heard and our pain is not perceived, so I’m continuing to fight that battle as well.”
