NBA legend Dwyane Wade pulled out all the stops to make his son Xavier’s 10th birthday truly special. On November 12, 2023, Wade treated his son to an unforgettable Lakers game at the Crypto.Com Arena in Los Angeles, California.
The proud papa took to social media to share photos from the day, declaring it the “best birthday to date” for his beloved son.
Xavier’s special day reached new heights when he received a birthday shout-out on the jumbotron. And if that wasn’t enough, the highlight of the night came when Xavier got up close and personal with none other than basketball legend LeBron James.
Wade captured a snapshot of his son alongside James with the caption,”When you get to meet your favorite player @kingjames!”
Xavier Wade was born to Dwyane Wade and Aja Metoyer on November 10, 2013 when Dwyane was on a break with now-wife Gabrielle Union.
On an episode of Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast that aired earlier this year, Wade opened up about the difficulties he faced when revealing to Union that he had fathered a child with another woman.
“Way harder to have a conversation with my now-wife,” he said. “You try to think of everything possible. You’re thinking about it all, and it is all scary. The one situation is scary enough, but you know this is gonna hurt someone that you’ve been building a relationship and a life with.”
Despite the passage of a decade since the incident, Wade and Union continue to navigate the complexities of their relationship. Dwyane Wade revealed that they attend therapy together, acknowledging that addressing the past is an ongoing process.
“It doesn’t go away because years come or because I say ‘I’m sorry,’” he emphasized.
In Wade’s photographic memoir, “Dwyane”, he opened up about the challenges of not having Xavier live under the same roof as him and his other kids.
“Xavier doesn’t live with me, so we don’t get to see each other every day like I do with my other kids,” Wade wrote. “It makes things challenging at times, but it’s my job to make sure he never has to carry that weight.”
He continued, “It’s up to me to make sure he knows he’s being raised with love even if we don’t live under the same roof … And it’s up to me to let him know that while distance may physically separate us at times, I’m always going to be the man he can depend on to love him and help lead him.”
