Pharrell Williams had the support of his wife and kids as he made his debut as the men’s creative director for Louis Vuitton on Tuesday.
Williams closed down the Pont Neuf bridge in Paris, where he showcased looks from Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection during Paris Men’s Fashion Week.
The grand event, featuring a full orchestra and gospel choir, attracted a star-studded audience that included celebrities like Rihanna, Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Zendaya, and many others.
As the show concluded, Pharrell walked down the runway, wearing a camouflage-inspired outfit. The moment became even more special as his wife, Helen Lasichanh, and their four children—15-year-old son Rocket Ayer Williams and 6-year-old triplets—rushed to embrace him, all dressed in the same camo attire.
When Williams was appointed as the successor to the late Virgil Abloh in February, it sparked a debate about the validity of his appointment. Despite not being a formally trained fashion designer, Pharell has left an indelible mark on popular culture, spanning music and fashion for over two decades.
In fact, his foray into the world of design dates back to 2003 when he collaborated with Marc Jacobs, then at the helm of Louis Vuitton, and Japanese designer Nigo on a successful line of sunglasses.
He has also collaborated with renowned brands such as Moncler and Moynat, and has maintained long-standing partnerships with Adidas and Chanel. In fact, he even designed a celebrated capsule collection with Chanel’s late creative director, Karl Lagerfeld.
In an interview with WWD prior to the show, Williams expressed his gratitude for being chosen as Louis Vuitton’s men’s creative director.
He remarked, “Every day, I gotta pinch myself because it’s an appointment, and I was chosen,” he said. “Pietro [Beccari] saw something, and I’m touched by that and I honor that every day.”
