Joseline Hernandez is getting ready to welcome her second child nearly 10 years after becoming a mom for the first time.
The reality star, who is seven months pregnant, recently sat down with Shannon Sharpe on Club Shay Shay, where she opened up about her pregnancy, motherhood and the family she has built with husband Ballistic Beats.
That family includes her 9-year-old daughter, Bonnie Bella, whom she shares with Stevie J. However, Ballistic has been in Bonnie’s life since she was a baby and has helped raise her.
“You know he raised my daughter. He raised our daughter,” Hernandez said of Beats. “I met him when Bonnie was four months.”
“She is his daughter,” she added. “Yeah, he is a father because he does everything. He had her since she was four months.”
According to Hernandez, Ballistic has handled the everyday responsibilities of parenting for years.
“I met my husband when Bonnie was six months. They’ve been together since,” she said. “And he’s taking her to school every day. He’s fed her. He tutors her every day for the past nine and a half years.”
She continued, “They play video games every night. He takes her to the park. He taught her how to swim. He taught her how to read. He taught this girl everything.”
Bonnie calls him “Papa,” and their bond is so close that Hernandez admitted she sometimes feels left out.
“Sometimes I get jealous of their relationship. They don’t know that,” she said.
Hernandez then shared something Bonnie has told her about Ballistic.
“She’s like, ‘Thank you for being my papa.’ She always tell me, ‘Mom, the best thing you could have done is gave me papa as my papa.’ She says this to me.”
Hernandez sees herself as the stricter parent in the household.
“Obviously I’m the mother and I’m like the enforcer,” she explained. “I’m going to enforce the things that she needs to do.”
Her own upbringing has shaped the way she parents Bonnie.
“As a mom that didn’t have a mom that did that to me,” Hernandez said, later adding, “That’s why I ended up doing all the crazy [ __ ] that I done.”
The pregnant star has made a point of talking openly with Bonnie about her past rather than allowing her daughter to hear about it from someone else.
“I don’t need anybody telling my daughter anything I done on TV before I tell it to her because she’s too smart,” she said.
She continued, “You know it’s like you have to teach these children where their parents come from. If not they would never understand the struggle.”
As Bonnie gets older, Hernandez knows there is only so much she can shield her from.
“So it’s like you got to kind of guide them through life, right?” she said. “So like as bad as I want to keep my secrets, I can’t. She’s growing up so quickly like it’s all over the place. I have to say something about it.”
Soon, Hernandez will be starting over with the newborn stage.
She delivered Bonnie through a water birth and is planning another natural delivery, though she has not decided whether she will give birth at home or in a hospital.
“My first one was water birth,” she said. “And I’m like I’m like I’m like I don’t know what to do. I don’t know what to do. I have my doctor, right?”
Hernandez said she has several midwives on standby while she makes her decision.
“Whether I go to the hospital or whether I do it at home,” she said. “It’s going to be natural.”
