On his 18th birthday, Monica gifted her son, Rodney Jr., $18,000 to invest in his business. The singer took to Instagram on Sunday (May 21) to share the news on her son’s special day.
In a heartfelt message, Monica expressed, “You changed my life the second I knew I was pregnant with you. I wanted to be better for you, grow for you, change for you, and accomplish things unimaginable for you. Today I celebrate you! There’s nothing in the world we wouldn’t do for you!”
As part of the birthday celebration, the celebrity mom revealed, “For your birthday, I’ll give you $1,800 to have fun,” the celebrity mom told her son. “And I’m gonna give you $18,000 to invest in yourself and your business. We’re gonna sit down and map out your business plan how you want it.”
Rodney Jr. is Monica’s eldest son from her relationship with producer Rodney Hill Sr. Additionally, she has a younger son, Romelo, with Rodney Sr. and a daughter named Laiyah with star athlete Shannon Brown.
Monica has never been one to shy away from using her influence to advocate for good rearing practices. It was just a few weeks ago that the recording artist took to social media to encourage moms of sons to be more open with their children.
“I feel like a lot of times as moms because we love our sons, we excuse a lot and we don’t speak on what it is we experience when we then become wives, girlfriends or friends of,” the celebrity mom shared. “It’s important for a man to know the desires of a woman and how to respect a woman and how to speak to a woman,” Monica told her supporters.
“What I find happens the most when you pacify your sons and you do not teach them, they’re unable to be accountable,” Accountability is first and foremost over here,” Monica declared.
