Sy’Rai Smith is officially a recording artist. The daughter of veteran singer Brandy shared the exciting news of her debut single, ‘On My Own,’ this past Thursday (May 4).
Sy’Rai shared promo pictures for her new track to announce the arrival of her project. “It’s out,” the singer exclaimed. “So proud of you, baby,” Brandy wrote to her daughter on Instagram. The ‘Almost Doesn’t Count’ singer also shared the news with her social media fans.
“My baby everywhere,” Brandy exclaimed when speaking of Sy’Rai’s news single. “I love you and I’m so proud of you,” the doting mom told her daughter.
It was only a matter of time before Sy’Rai delved into the music industry with a project of her own. The rising star has been singing her mom’s songs for years.
“I started discovering my voice very young, very, very young,” Sy’Rai shared during a recent interview. “One day, I played [Brandy’s] song in my CD player and she didn’t even know I had a CD of hers. She just came into my room and started crying.”
Brandy was overwhelmed by the fact that her daughter got inspiration from her songs. The encounter encouraged Sy’Rai to continue her quest to become a recording artist like her mom.
“She’s let me grow and fulfill my purpose in the studio and songwriting,” Sy’Rai said of her mother’s guiding hand. “She trusts me to bring out a good product at the end of the day,” Smith added. “I think I’m doing a pretty good job. I think when people hear my music, they’ll be pretty surprised.”
Sy’Rai received much support from her fans upon revealing the debut of her single. “The New Testament has dropped her first scripture,” wrote Black Culture News in reference to Brandy being recognized as the vocal Bible. “I am extremely proud of you,” Vaughn Alvarez shared. “It’s your time, baby girl.”
