It was a night out at the movies for Monica and her kids this past Wednesday (Dec. 14). The singer and her oldest son, Rodney Hill III, attended the Atlanta screening of I Wanna Dance With Somebody at Regal Atlantic Station. Rodney’s older brother, Ramone Malik Hill, was also present for movie night.
“@whitneyhouston, I will ALWAYS Love You,” Monica wrote to the late Whitney Houston who passed away in 2012. “We will always honor you and your legacy,” the recording artist promised.
Whitney Houston’s final moments in public were recorded by individuals attending an event hosted by Kelly Price at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California. Houston was staying in the hotel and decided to come downstairs to support her friend. Price called the legendary singer onstage to render a selection of ‘Yes, Jesus Loves Me.’ Whitney passed away in her hotel room hours after singing at Kelly’s event on February 11, 2012. I Wanna Dance With Somebody is a tribute to the late singer who continues to impact the music industry beyond the grave.
“I think this film does a great job at covering the full life of Whitney Houston,” Ashton Sanders, who portrays Houston’s husband in the film, tells The Hollywood Reporter. “We see it from the beginning to the unfortunate end, and I feel like the highs are the highs and the lows are the lows, but it’s all still very beautiful,” the actor added.
Tamara Tunie, who plays Houston’s mother Cissy Houston in the movie, agrees. “The point of this film is to show Whitney’s triumphs and the failures, the trials and tribulations, the joy and the sorrow,” Tunie shares. “It’s a multidimensional life lived by a multidimensional human being,” the actress adds.
Fans of Whitney Houston can catch I Wanna Dance With Somebody in theaters on December 23, 2022.
