Jennifer Hudson has quite the homebody on her hands with her son, David Otunga Jr. The talk show host tells Glamour how her 13-year-old loves to spend his days at home with his mom.
“You rest,” David tells his mom after she’s worked a long day. “You sit,” the youngster says. “I’ll cook,” the teen promises his mother.
David enjoys school days when his mom drops him off and picks him up instead of allowing him to take the school bus. “All we can do as parents is put our teachings in them,” Hudson says of her rearing practices. “But at some point, we’ve got to trust those teachings and see what they take and do and what they learn from it,” she adds.
It was just a few months ago that Jennifer Hudson celebrated her son’s thirteenth birthday. David enjoyed a party fit for a thriving teen, and Jennifer could not believe her son was growing up before her eyes.
“Can the entire team Jhud and the world stop what you are doing and wish my son a very happy 13th bday on (sic) today,” Jennifer asked her social media fans on her son’s special day. “I officially have a teenager,” she continued. “Wow,” Jennifer exclaimed. “Turn up my baby! I will forever celebrate you.”
Celebrating David is a 24/7 job that has Jennifer reconsidering her initial plans to have more kids. “I used to say when little David turned four, but that came too quick,” the celebrity mom tells Glamour. “Then I said six, and now he’s 13,” she shares.
“I wouldn’t say never, but if I don’t, I’m grateful for my baby that I have,” Hudson says in reference to the idea of having more kids. “You do need other kids around to match a kid’s energy,” Hudson admits. The singer relies on her son’s cousins to “match” his energy.
