Madonna’s son, David Banda, celebrated his seventeenth birthday this past weekend. The teen had a blast while commemorating his special day with his mom and siblings.
David wore a sequined outfit that was edgy from top to bottom. The teen was certainly stylish at his disco-themed party. “Happy 17th Birthday David Banda,” Madonna wrote to her son. “You (sic) My Ride or Die,” she added.
David has been the subject of both love and criticism these past few months. While many love his fashion sense because of its representation of gender fluidity, some have scrutinized David for taking things to the next level with his style. In particular, Madonna’s son has come under the weight of Internet trolls for electing to wear dresses in addition to pants.
Those who follow David’s journey closely understand that he is pursuing a career in entertainment. The teen attends Los Angeles Country High School for the Arts (LACHSA) and has participated in several of the school’s plays. In fact, it was just a few weeks ago that Madonna said her son’s performance in a recent production deserved an Academy Award.
Banda is also a recording artist in the making. The teen spent time with his mom in the studio during the summer. David has also been recording while playing the piano and singing at home. “You have some talented kids,” one fan told Madonna after watching the video clip of her son performing. “Great voice,” another social media follower agreed.
In all, Madonna has six kids. Her oldest children, Lourdes and Rocco, are her biological children. David along with his younger sisters – Mercy, Stelle, and Estere – were adopted from Malawi at different times by Madonna. Although she has faced much scrutiny over her decision to adopt her son and daughters from Africa, Madonna has continuously ignored the noise and encouraged all of her children to pursue their passions.
