At the D23 Expo, in Anaheim, CA, Disney dropped the first look trailer for Percy Jackson & The Olympians. And, of course it has fans excitedly waiting for the upcoming series to release on Disney+.
On hand to help showcase the series teaser trailer was author of the books and series executive producer, Rick Riordan, in addition to the series stars: Leah Sava Jeffries, Walker So bell, and Aryan Simhadri.
If you aren’t familiar with the upcoming series, here’s a brief synopsis of what’s to come according to Deadline.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians tells the fantastical story of a 12-year-old modern demigod, Percy Jackson, who’s just coming to terms with his newfound supernatural powers when the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt. Now Percy must trek across America to find it and restore order to Olympus.
Percy isn’t traveling alone. He enlists the help of his friends to help him on his journey. Among the group is Annabeth, portrayed by Leah Sava Jeffries.
If not quite caught up on your Greek Mythology, and want to know a little more about Jeffries’ character, according to Variety Annabeth is a true daughter of the Greek goddess, Athena. She is a brilliant strategist with an active and curious mind. After having spent the last five years at Camp Half-Blood, she longs to test her mettle in the human world, of which she barely remembers. She trains Percy to survive the mythological world, and in turn, he helps her connect with her humanity.
If you remember, when it was first announced that Jeffries would portray the role of the Greek Demi-goddess, some fans of the series were not happy at all with the casting. However, the series’ book author and executive producer, Rick Riordan couldn’t be happier at their choice.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians is not the only other project that Jeffries is starring in. You may have seen her in the Idris Elba onscreen thriller, Beast. Jeffries also has Something from Tiffany’s coming to Amazon Prime later on this year.
