“Thank you so much @realrjpeete for letting me come to your job and film you,” Holly wrote to her son who invited her to see the inner workings of the Dodgers stadium where he works. “You are an excellent #Autism advocate,” Holly told RJ. “It’s hard to believe it’s been over 20 years since the ‘never day!’ You continue to blow us away with your compassion for others. Thank you for being a lighthouse of hope and positivity for so many and for helping us raise funds and support the #Autism community!”

RJ was diagnosed with autism as a young child. Doctors predicted a future of dependence for him, yet RJ defied such odds to become a young adult who has a job and drives while living with autism.

“Thank you for sharing your life publicly,” Holly Robinson Peete wrote to her son. “[Thank you] for being bold and transparent and understanding that your advocacy and example give hope and show possibilities to so many others in the #Autism Community,” Holly said.

The Peetes continue to advocate for autism awareness by promoting the nonprofit Autism Speaks. According to the organization’s website,

“Autism Speaks is dedicated to promoting solutions, across the spectrum and throughout the life span, for the needs of individuals with autism and their families. We do this through advocacy and support; increasing understanding and acceptance of people with autism; and advancing research into causes and better interventions for autism spectrum disorder and related conditions.”
