STORM REID JOINS FORCES WTIH DARK & LOVELY FOR NEW INITIATIVE

According to mentoring.org, research shows that youth are 130% more likely to be interested in leadership roles, 55% less likely to skip school and 78% more likely to volunteer when they have a mentor. For most children, it is not easy to find a mentor to help them make it to the next level and beyond; however, Storm Reid is vying to help change that. Storm Reid joins forces with Dark & Lovely for a new initiative to help close opportunity gap for Black girls.

In an Instagram post, the Euphoria star told followers why she is embarking upon this new mission.

“One of the reasons I was so excited to partner with @darkandlovely was because of their Building Beautiful Futures: Closing the Opportunity Gap program in partnership with the @NAACP. I love that they go beyond products and are bringing purpose to our community! Opportunity Gap refers to the fact that the circumstances in which people are born—such as their race, ethnicity, ZIP code, and socioeconomic status—impact their opportunities in life.”

Reid continued in her post, “Being a college student, I know how important things like scholarships, mentorships, resources and tools can be in helping close the opportunity gap and I will definitely be doing my part to help inspire and uplift young Black women as they work towards their goals. The long-standing beauty giant, announced the creation of Building Beautiful Futures: Closing the Opportunity Gap right in time for National Mentoring Month. The program is a multi-year commitment that will help bring educational and career equity to Black, female college students and young professionals.

The initiative will also partner with the NAACP Youth & College Division in order to provide scholarships, mentorship and career coaching opportunities to recent graduates and those pursuing four-year degrees.

“Now more than ever, young Black women are in need of actionable support that can propel them forward,” said Erica Culpepper, General Manager or Dark & Lovely. “Through this program, we hope to help close the educational and career equity gap by providing tangible resources that help young Black women embrace their limitless potential and shape their legacy.”

Dark & Lovely and the NAACP said, in a recent press release, that they will provide 1-on-1 mentorship, $10,000 scholarships to selected Black female students per year, L’Oreal USA internship opportunities and college and early career care packages among other commitments to help close the gap.

“As a working actress, college student and Black woman, I know first-hand how important it is to have access to resources and mentors to help you achieve your goals. You can’t do it alone,” said Reid. “That’s why I am excited to partner with Dark & Lovely to help impact the lives of so many young women like myself, who hope to break barriers and shatter glass ceilings.”

Once again Storm Reid has proven that she is an extraordinary human being and we are glad that we have a front row seat for her amazing future endeavors to come. For more information on the Building Beautiful Futures: Closing the Opportunity Gap initiative, click here.
