SWV’s Coko Clemons recently opened up about supporting her teenage son Jayye Michael, who identifies as gay.
In a Q &A session on her Youtube channel, the singer responded to a fan who wanted to know if it “was hard accepting Jayye’s sexualtiy.”
To which Coko responded, “It was not hard to accept my son’s sexuality at all. I ‘m his mother so i already knew what it was and i was just waiting for him to figure out what it was. And when he came to me and told me i was like “‘You finally figure it out.'”
“But i love my son. He came out of my cooch. Why in the world would i not be ok with his sexualtiy. It is what it is. I’m not going to beat him. I Am not going to throw him on the altar. I pray for my kids regardless. I want them to be the best that they can be. Because my youngest son is gay, i don’t dislike him for that. That’s my baby. I carried him for eight months and he is special because i was only in labor for 30 mins. I pray for him like i pray for my other son.”
Jayye,18, recently graduated high school and is headed to college. Proud mom Coko Clemons had this to say on her son’s graduation day.”Well my dear Jayye Michael, today is your day! Your graduation day!! I couldn’t be more proud of you son. I have watched you work so hard to achieve all the goals you’ve set. Even with the negative things that were being thrown your way, you didn’t give up. You pushed on through like the champion you are. You are a strong, intelligent and an amazing young man that I am proud to call son! I love you with all my heart and soul.”
She continued, “Some people say I failed as mother. Well, I say I passed with flying colors as a mother because you’re graduating high school and then off to college to become a DENTIST!!!! So, I did something right! I love you Jay Jay and there’s nothing nobody can do about it!!! Mommy won’t leave you for nobody or nothing!! Your future looks super bright!!! Let’s go get it Dr. Jayye!!”
