Jada Pinkett-Smith has shaved off hair after months of experiencing hair loss. The mom of two explains that her 20-year-old daughter, Willow Smith, inspired the new look.
“Willow made me do it because it was time to let go BUT … my 50’s are bout to be Divinely lit with this shed,” Jada wrote under a photo of her and daughter Willow.
In the snap, both Willow and Jada are rocking bald looks. Willow captioned of the same photo, “A gift is pure when it is given from the heart to the right person at the right time and at the right place, and when we expect nothing in return.”
Jada, Willow, and her mother Adrienne “Gammy” Banfield-Norris are the hosts of the popular Facebook series, Red Table Talk. During one episode of the talk show, Jada told viewers about her hair loss and why she has been wearing turbans.
“I’ve been getting a lot of questions about why I’ve been wearing this turban,” she began. “I have been having issues with hair loss, and I’m going to tell you it was terrifying when it first started.”
She then explained how it all began. “I was in the shower one day, and just handfuls of hair [was] just in my hands,” Jada said. “I was just like, ‘oh my God, am I going bald?’ It was one of those times in my life that I was literally shaking with fear.”
The Girls Trip star told viewers that’s why she had to cut her hair. “I had a lot of hair,” she recalls. “People always thought I had weaves. I have gotten every kind of test there is to have. They don’t know why. People say stress. ‘You do have alopecia.’”
After sharing her experience, viewers were quick to offer advice and ideas.
“I just want to say a thank you to everyone for all the outreach, from all the doctors and all the holistic practitioners, who have been reaching out to me for this head of mine,” Jada said in a video on Instagram. “I appreciate it so much. And I’m taking into a lot of consideration all the recommendations that are coming my way.”
