Boyz II Men’s Shawn Stockman says raising an autistic child is expensive. The recording artist recently introduced a new watch line, SEVENFRIDAY, which serves to benefit parents with autistic children.
Shawn addressed those who follow his nonprofit organization, Micah’s Voice, which was named after Stockman’s son, Micah, who was diagnosed with autism at 2-year-old.
“Autism has been THE most challenging thing I have ever faced,” Shawn told his charity’s supporters last week. “But with each small step forward, and every tiny victory, there leaves a remnant of accomplishment and a feeling of worth and purpose,” the R&B star added. “So in honour of the GOOD times, and the BEAUTIFUL moments, and the DEFINING goals we all achieve, my friend Dan Niederer and I created something that we hope makes you smile as much as it makes us smile! We are proud to present the LIMITED edition SEVENFRIDAY MICAH’S VOICE T1/02.”

Although there are many watches on the market, Shawn Stockman told TMZ Live that the SEVENFRIDAY watch was different. “This watch is different from any other [watch] that you might have because when you look down on it, not only do you look at the smiley face on there, which is the Micah’s Voice logo — you can look down and say that you actually helped somebody,” Stockman told TMZ subscribers.
“It’s not self-gratifying like most watches are,” Shawn continued. “That money will go directly to helping families with developing their child and getting their child right with this journey called autism.”
Micah Stockman receives the best care from his parents. Shawn and his wife, Sharonda, also realize that every mom and dad does not have the resources they have to provide proper care.
“We went through a lot of trials and tribulations of trying to find the right people to help our son,” Shawn shared during his conversation on TMZ Live. “In the midst of that, we realized [after] looking at our bills at the end of every year [that] it can be very expensive,” the celebrity father added.
“For the average family, with the average salary, this can be extremely damaging to a family to take care of their child with this condition. So Micah’s Voice [has a] job to raise funds to provide grants for those families that would normally not be able to afford the therapists, and the behaviorists, and just the therapy in itself to take care of their child.”
