BET’s Baldwin Hills star Gerren Taylor has died. She is survived by her 6-year-old daughter Miyoko.
Taylor, whose real name is Ashley Taylor Gerren, reportedly died in her sleep. Though no cause of death has been revealed, sources say that the reality television star battled with lupus and was on dialysis during the time of her death.
Taylor starred in all three seasons of Baldwin Hills, which ran from 2007 to 2009 and followed a group of African-American teenagers from the Baldwin Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles.
“Still can’t believe it,” Taylor’s Baldwin Hills co-star Moriah Johnson wrote on Instagram on Monday. “Feels like I’ve lost a piece of my childhood. It’s difficult to comprehend the brevity of life at times, and so we must live and love as best we can while we can. Sending my love and prayers to the Taylor family and all affected by this untimely loss. Such a beautiful and confident soul. Enjoy your rest.”
Gerren, who was a model and an actress, often shared pictures and videos of her daughter on Instagram. “I’ma always hold you down regardless, baby girl,” the reality star captioned on one such photos.
Not surprisingly, Miyoko nicknamed “KoKo” , is fast following in her mom’s modeling footsteps and already has representation from Paloma Model and Talent.
Gerren, ever the proud mama, supported her six year old’s aspirations. On June 30th, 2019, the model penned a touching message to her then five year old, encouraging her to always chase after her dreams.
She wrote, “To my daughter, I want you to believe deep in your heart that you are capable of achieving anything you put your mind to. That you will never lose. You either win or learn. Just go forth and aim for the skies. I can’t promise to be here for the rest of your life, but I can promise to love you for the rest of mine. You make me so proud and mommy loves you unconditionally. Happy 5th birthday, Koko.”
BCK Says: What a prophetic message! Rest in peace, Gerren!
