Kevin Hart’s Sony Drama Fatherhood is headed for a summer release. In addition to being released on one of the most popular streaming services around, Netflix, the project will also be a part of the Higher Ground production company, owned by former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama.
Hart commented on social media, “So excited to announce that my new drama “Fatherhood” will be released on @netflix on June 18th right before Father’s Day….This is a passion project…The movie is amazing….it gave me an opportunity to change the narrative on the “Black Father” stereotype….As a black father I pride myself on trying to be as present as possible in my kids lives…I’m not the only black father that does this….there are so many of us. Seeing a film like Fatherhood is important as hell. I am also happy to be partnering with President Barack Obama & his wife Michelle Obama’s production company “Higher Ground Productions” …..This is HUGE!!!!!”
Fatherhood, will be directed by Paul Weitz and is based on the book Two Kisses for Maddy: A Memoir of Loss & Love by Matthew Logelin. The project, based on a a true story, follows Hart as a single dad who brings up his daughter after the unexpected death of his wife a day after their child’s birth.
The adorable Melody Hurd was tapped to play opposite Kevin Hart as his daughter.
You may remember that we first got a glimpse of Hurd back in 2017 when she and her sister Lyric Hurd went viral as they danced to Zay Hilfigerrr and Zayion Mcall’s hit song “Juju on That Beat.” The pair even appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show, which consequently set the course for their careers.
Make sure to mark your calendars. Fatherhood is set to premiere on Friday, June 18th, right before Father’s Day.
