Halle Berry has an opinion about child support. The celebrity, who pays her daughter’s father $16,000 per month for child support, gave a full breakdown to her social media fans about how she feels about the arrangement and others similar to her agreement.
The explanation came after an Instagram follower brought up the fact that Halle’s ex, Gabriel Aubry, once called her a racial and manages to get nearly $20,000 per month for their daughter, Nahla Aubry. Gabriel and Halle share custody of Nahla, which means the youngster spends about the same time with both her mom and dad.
“It takes great strength every day to pay it,” Berry told the social media follower who shed light on the matter. “And BTW, it’s wrong and extortion,” the celebrity mom exclaimed.
Some questioned Halle Berry for calling child support extortion. The celebrity, however, clarified that not all cases are the same.
“I understand some parents (man or woman) may need help, but I also feel that in these modern times both men and women have the responsibility to financially take care of their children, work hard, and make every effort to do so,” Berry said. “The way many laws are set up, people are allowed to USE children in order to be awarded money to live a lifestyle that not only they did not earn, but that is way above and beyond the child’s reasonable needs,” the celebrity mom continued.
“That is ‘THE WRONG’ and where I see abuse,” Berry clarified. “The laws are outdated and no longer reflect the modern world. This is just my opinion, I clearly don’t own the truth. I can say I’m living it every day, and I can tell you it’s hard. I do totally understand the feelings of those men who feel they are and have been taken advantage of by the system.”
Nahla is Halle Berry’s only child with Gabriel Aubry. The actress also has a son named Maceo with her ex-husband, Olivier Martinez.
