When he was 10, Ziggy Marley would sit in on recording sessions with his father, reggae icon Bob Marley. Now at 51, Ziggy Marley is a reggae legend and a proud father himself. He recently released his new album More Family Time, a sequel to his Grammy and Emmy-winning 2009 album Family Time.
If it wasn’t clear from the name, family is the theme of Ziggy Marley’s More Family Time, as it features his four children he shares with his wife Orly: 15-year-old Judah, 13-year-old Gideon, 9-year-old Abraham, and 4-year-old Isaiah Marley, who all appear on the album cover. Even Ziggy’s dog Romeo is on the album.
A portion of the album’s proceeds goes towards his U.R.G.E Foundation, which focuses on supporting education and health for children around the world. To create More Family Time, Ziggy “bottled the energy of his children and put it into music form.” His team says of the album: “The result will captivate children while also keeping their parents engaged via his signature reggae sound.”
More Family Time features many esteemed artists, which include Ziggy Marley’s younger brother Stephen Marley, rapper Busta Rhymes, Ben Harper, Alanis Morissette, Sheryl Crow, Tom Morello, Lisa Loeb, Angelique Kidjo, and actress Jamie Lee Curtis, who appears on the CD bonus track reading her children’s book, Today I Feel Silly & Other Moods That Make My Day.
Following in his legendary father’s footsteps, Ziggy Marley has released 15 excellent albums throughout his career and he is an eight-time Grammy-award winner. He also has his own label, Tuff Gong Worldwide, and a publishing company Ishti Music. Bob Marley fathered 12 children, with Ziggy being the eldest son; and as a father, Ziggy is not too far off with seven children of his own. In addition to the four kids Ziggy has with Orly, Ziggy also has three kids from previous relationships: Bambaata, Zuri, and Justice Marley.
