Glee star Naya Rivera is feared dead after her four-year-old son was found alone on a boat in the middle of Lake Piru in California on Wednesday, July 8th.
The actress rented a boat at about 1 p.m. for her and her son, Josey Dorsey, and failed to return it to the facilities after the three hours she paid for.
According to reports, a search for Rivera began on Wednesday afternoon, when at about 4:00 PM, another boater found Josey sleeping in the pontoon boat by himself. The boater notified officials, who immediately arrived at the scene around 4:40 p.m. and found the toddler “unharmed.”
The child told investigators that he and his mother were swimming, but his mother never got back into the boat.
“There’s a lot of challenges in a reservoir this size, at times with visibility,” Capt. Eric Buschow, of the sheriff’s department, said. “I don’t have details yet as to the depth of the area where the boat was found or what conditions they’re encountering out there.”
Buschow said of Josey, “He’s in good health… The family is going through a very traumatic time right now.”
On Tuesday, Rivera shared a photo on Instagram of her and her son with the caption, “just the two of us”.
Rivera welcomed son, Josey Hollis Dorsey, with then-husband Ryan Dorsey in 2015.
