TIME FOR KIDS LAUNCHES FREE DIGITAL LIBRARY FOR THOSE AFFECTED BY SCHOOL CLOSURES

Since launching in 1995, TIME for Kids has been a go-to source of quality journalism and education for millions of educators and students in classrooms around the country. Due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, many schools across the nation have been forced to close. In order to aid the students, families and educators who have been affected by school closures, TIME for Kids announced on March 23, 2020 that for the first time ever, the entire TIME for Kids digital library would be released for free for the rest of the school year.

Each week, the digital library will release new grade-specific issues (K-1, 2, 3-4, 5-6) of TIME for Kids and the child-friendly financial literacy magazine Your $. In addition, the TIME for Kids digital library will also release the entire catalog of previously published editions from 2020 and supplemental educational activities and resources such as turn-key teaching tools, worksheets, and quizzes for families and teachers.

The digital editions in the digital library are specifically designed for kids to use, allowing them flip through content the same way they would with a printed magazine. TIME for Kids is also available in other formats, such as printable PDF files and published articles on the website.

The first new issue of TIME for Kids in the digital library is available now. It is a special report on the coronavirus pandemic; it features interviews with health experts and explores how the COVID-19 pandemic is impacting schools and the economy. It also contains resources for educators and families to facilitate conversations about coronavirus and to help children better understand the pandemic.

On releasing the digital library for free, Andrea Delbanco, the editor in chief of TIME for Kids, stated: “Kids need and deserve fact-based, trustworthy journalism to help put the world in age-appropriate context, especially during a confusing time. In response to the current crisis we are bringing TIME for Kids to homes and families to provide access to anyone who needs it.”
